Ducks, rabbits and seagulls

That was some summer breeze last Sunday. It was far too windy to take the dogs on the beach so we went to the park instead. It's been some time since we've been to the park and the council have added some new play equipment for the children. Well ,we were fascinated by the side of the climbing frame asking if we see a duck or a rabbit? I see a duck, but hubby sees a duck and a rabbit! I can see the rabbit now he has pointed it out to me but my brain just wants to see the duck! I sent hubby back with his camera so I could test it out on my blog, let me know what you see.

I've also found a little game for you to play. When seagulls attack in Llandudno!

Tinker

Daughter has been wanting a second dog for quite some time now and has found her new lurcher girl called Tinker. Carol and Dave will be going to collect her later today.

Last week Carol, Dave and Eric helped out by raising money for the greyhound charity and met Tinker who was being fostered until a permanent home could be found for her. Carol and Dave have offered Tinker her forever home.

I've borrowed a few photos..

Mr. nice guy

When hubby and I were first married and the children were small, we used to live in a house that had electric central heating. It was far too expensive for us to use the central heating so we bought a calor gas heater to warm the living room. To replace the calor gas cylinder, we used to call into the local hardware store, run by a nice man called Peter with his mother. Peter would come to the house and replace the cylinder for us and have a friendly chat. He was a really nice guy.

The reason I am telling you this is because yesterday a judge ruled that he should die in prison as he is far too dangerous to ever be released.

Mr. nice guy became a serial killer.

There's more...

Following on from my last post, I thought I'd post a few more photos from our day out last week. I have also copied a bit of info about Llanfairpwll .

This is the visitor's centre

and

This Welsh town on the island of Anglesey is only known due to the fact that it has a very long name, and is the longest railway station name in Britain, and probably the longest domain name in the world.
The name translates as 'St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave'.
Originally called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means 'The Mary church by the pool near the white hazels' the village was renamed in the 19th Century.
This was around the time when the railway was built between Chester and Holyhead at the beginning of the 1850s. A local committee was put together to try and encourage trains, travellers and 19th Century tourists to stop at the village in order to help develop the village as a commercial and tourist centre. It is believed that the name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was invented by a cobbler from Menai Bridge; little did he know that he had implemented one of the most successful tourist marketing plans of all time. Today the village is signposted as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll and is known to locals as Llanfairpwll or Llanfair.

Day out to Anglesey

The weather didn't look too promising to start with yesterday but I made our picnic anyway and we set off to go to Anglesey. Whenever we go there I always like to stop off at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch,
the town with the longest railway station name in Britain and it has quite a good visitor's centre too. I took a photo of the station sign.

After a brief visit there, we then went off to Beaumaris and by now the sun was shining so we parked up and ate our picnic lunch on the green in front of the castle.

We decided it would be nice to go on a boat trip to Puffin Island and as the dogs were allowed on the boat it was perfect. We went on the Island Princess. Here are Amber and Annie on the pier waiting for the boat.

and this is Puffin Island, a bird sanctuary. Lots of birds to see and we were hoping to see some seals, but it wasn't to be.

After the hour's boat trip, the sun was shining brightly so we just had to have a large icecream, and on the way home we stopped off for fish and chips.

A really nice day out.

Jobs

I booked this week off from work knowing that I would spend the most part of it by myself, but that was fine as I felt that I was in need of a break. In hindsight I was feeling run down at the time and sickening from the 'flu germ which turned into a nasty chest infection. Thankfully I have fully recovered from it now and it is nice having a rest from the workplace.

I've taken hubby to work this morning and I then went off to a different from usual supermarket to do the weekly food shop. When I go to collect hubby in a couple of hours time we will have the whole of the weekend off together. He suggested we could go to Chester tomorrow but I don't want to do any more traipsing around shops and would rather we made a picnic and drove somewhere with the dogs, to Anglesey perhaps. The weather is lovely, too nice for shopping.

Hubby has been in this job for five weeks now. After being made redundant last year, he struggled to find other work and quite honestly there isn't much available in this area. So the job he is doing now is only part-time hours, Monday to Friday and to be honest it is a very different job to anything he has ever done before and he's not feeling confident of his capabilities. I say he must be doing alright or they would certainly have let him know by now. As it is also in the retail trade, he says that at times there are more staff than customers. Hubby is used to being busy and is not happy standing around. There are whispers amongst the staff that the company may be laying off staff. He knows that as he was last in, he'll probably be first out. Hubby has mixed feelings about the situation.

We are not worried about anything at all. We will take it it in our stride. Now for a nice weekend.

My awayday

I thoroughly enjoyed my day trip to London and spending yesterday with Barry. I hope it was an enjoyable day for him too after what he had to contend with in his job at the weekend. He was on duty at the time and had to call the police and close his station after a member of his staff was assaulted. I could never imagine having to deal with anything remotely like that in my life.

Barry met me at the station and we went from there to his flat in Richmond for a nice cup of tea and a chat. I'm glad we had this opportunity to talk about his plans for his future, and I am pleased for him. We then went for a walk down by the river and as it was a nice warm, sunny day it made it all the more enjoyable.

We headed back into the city and hit a few shops. He thought quite rightly that I'd like to visit this new store in Covent Garden ,though I resisted the temptation to buy anything from there. I did manage to buy the book I've been waiting to be released, and both Barry and I bought a Tokyo travel guide . Barry has been to Tokyo before but I haven't! Of course I had to take something home for hubby and he's always happy to have a Dvd or two.

I was ready for a good sit down after the shopping and so we went to our favourite Japanese restaurant for a meal. Very enjoyable it was too, I particularly like the green tea we have afterwards, it is very refreshing. After our meal we still had time to visit the Apple store on Regent Street. Then sadly it was time to head back to the station to catch my train home.

We seemed to pack plenty into those eight hours I was in London, but most especially I enjoyed spending the time with Barry. I am off to read my book now and try the Japanese chocolate coffee beans that Barry bought for me. I'm waiting for him to email the photo he took of me in Piccadilly Circus as I'm thinking of posting it here!

May... been and gone

I've only just recovered from the worst bout of 'flu I've ever had in my life. I have spent a fortune on cough and cold remedies but the 'flu just lingered and lingered. I have coughed so much that I've been sick, couldn't sleep and my ribs hurt. One good thing to come from it and that's I'll never smoke a cigarette ever again. If I ever get the urge I'll just rememeber how ill I've been these last couple of weeks.

The last Bank Holiday weekend was ruined. Daughter and son-in-law were going to come and take us out for a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary but I was too ill and spent the whole weekend laid-up.

I have a treat in store tomorrow and that's an away day to London to see son. I booked a week off work and the train tickets a few weeks ago and I've been hoping to feel well enough to go. I do and am looking forward to the day. We have lots of chat to catch up on.
